The Starrett 229 Telescoping Gage is used to determine the actual size of holes, slots and recesses up to 6" (150 mm). The ends of both contacts are hardened and ground to a radius to allow adequate clearance in the smaller hole which the gauge will enter. This tool must be slightly balanced in the hole being measured to ensure the tool is the proper diameter before it is locked and removed. The final hole size is obtained by measuring the contacts of the gauge. with a micrometer range of 3/4"-1 1/4" (19-32 mm), 2 3/8" (60 mm) shank.
